Victorian Public Holidays

Victoria is the second most famous and most densely populated state in Australia. Just like Queensland was named after the Queen, Victoria also is named after Queen Victoria.

All Victorian public holidays in the year 2011 surprisingly fall either right before the weekend or after the weekend making it a long weekend year for the citizens of Victoria.

The Victorian public holidays declared for special occasions are celebrated with great fun and enthusiasm by the citizens here.

Victorian public holidays’ list reflects the official birthday of Queen Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, the Queen of Australia on the 13th of June which falls on a Monday.

Though the Christmas Day in the year 2011 falls on Sunday, a substituted holiday has been declared on the following day which falls on Monday, the 27th of December. While the Christmas holiday is transferred to Tuesday, the Boxing Day holiday is declared on the 26th of December which falls on a Monday. A 4 day break adds up some pep for the preparation of the New Year’s Eve and the big day as well.

Post Easter Sunday, the 25th of April signifies Anzac day as well. So, a substituted holiday for Anzac day has been declared on Monday, the 26th of April which falls on Tuesday. Another 4 day break here will refresh the citizens from the prayer and fasting they had observed for a 40-day Easter period.

Most important and most awaited day by the citizens of Victoria is the Melbourne cup day. This day falls on Tuesday, the 1st of November. Melbourne cup day is the most one out of all the Victorian Public holidays. People prepare and plan starting from the tickets to be bought to the outfits to be worn. It is the most memorable day for the citizens of Australia especially for that large population living in Melbourne, Victoria.
