The month of romance and the day of love; these abbreviations relate to the most loved and awaited day of the year, Valentine’s Day is clebrated in the month of February.

The day is perceived as an opportunity to express love hidden in the deep layers of the heart on someone who has succeeded in grabbing space in the heart.

Valentine’s Day is the most popular and most celebrated one across the world irrespective of communities. February 14 is the commemoration day in celebrating love between intimate companions. Apart from Christmas, this day is the most loved and celebrated day of the year across the world. People have been celebrating the lovers’ day since middle ages.

The history of Valentine’s Day is not authenticated though but there are different versions that we tend to hear on this.

Some believe that Valentine’s Day is celebrated by lovers because Saint Valentine helped the ostracized soldiers of the kingdom owned by Emperor Claudius II to meet or marry their sweet hearts opposing the emperor’s decision of not allowing young men to get married. The Emperor jailed Valentine and forced him to worship Roman gods but Valentine was said to have refused to oblige the king and so he was punished.

On the other hand, some believe that Valentine had a love affair with his jailer’s daughter and just before he breathed his last, he is said to have sent her a signed note that reads “from your Valentine”. His death had an aura of love surrounding it and so people started celebrating this day as lovers’ day or Valentine’s Day.

Though both these stories have no credibility and authentication, still people celebrate it as lovers’ day. Florists sell flower bouquets like hot cakes. Cupids, heart symbols, teddies and red roses are the symbolic expressions of Valentine’s Day.
