The island of inspiration and the natural state among the Australian states is Tasmania.
The environment in Tasmania is so natural that it divides this state and the whole world into two different regions. More than 35 % of Tasmania has reserves, national parks and world class heritage sites.
Though Tasmania is a part of Australia, it is distinctive in its own way. The environment, the beauty and the lifestyle in Tasmania are not much connected to the other states of territories of Australia. Common factors that match Tasmania with its co-states in Australia are Tasmania public holidays.
Tasmania public holidays are observed similarly to that of the other states and territories of Australia. Tasmania celebrates all the special occasions mentioned under the list of Tasmania public holidays which are commonly observed across all the states of Australia.
Tasmania observes the New Year’s Day, Australia day, Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Anzac day, Queen’s birthday, Christmas day and Boxing day commonly with the other states. However, interestingly, the list of Tasmania public holidays reflects a common yet interesting word as a synonym to the Labor Day and it is “the eight hours day”.
Tasmania observes the Labor Day significantly called as the eight hours day specifically on the second Monday in the month of March.
Apart from the special occasions mentioned under the list of Tasmania public holidays, Tasmania also celebrates certain days by holding special shows in different parts of the state.
Tasmania holds Royal Hobart show, Flinders Island show, King Island show etc as a part of recreation across different regions in the state.
Apart from general public holidays, two special ones are the Royal Hobart Regatta observed on the second Monday in February in all parts of Tasmania South and Recreation day on the first Monday in November in all parts of Tasmania North.
The following days are public holidays under the National Employment Standards:
1 January (New Year’s Day)
26 January (Australia Day)
Good Friday
Easter Monday
25 April (Anzac Day)
Queen’s birthday holiday
(on the day it is celebrated in a state or
territory or a region of a state or territory)
25 December (Christmas Day)
26 December (Boxing Day)
These days may be substituted for another day under state or
territory law, by agreement under the terms of an award or
agreement, or between an employer
and an award / agreement free employee.
Additional public holidays can also be provided under state or
territory law. For example, regional public holidays that apply only
in a specific area, state public holidays for Labour Day and
Melbourne Cup Day in Victoria.
