Queen’s Birthday

The word “Queen” reflects royalty and greatness. Queens are the most praised and adored ones as history reveals. The Queen of Australia, the loving daughter of Duke, later King George VI and the Duchess of York took birth on 21st of April in 1926. She was born at 17 Bruton Street in London at her maternal grandparents’ house. She was named as Elizabeth Alexandra Mary.

Her highness, Queen Elizabeth Alexandra Mary still holds the pride of being the Queen of Australia. The 5 feet 4 inches tall Queen of Australia has turned 85 years old on the 21st of April 2011. Though her age is ascending, she still holds that charm and glow while she flashes a beautiful smile. Queen Elizabeth Alexandra Mary is popularly known as Queen Elizabeth II and she is the fortieth monarch since William the Conqueror. The Queen’s birthday is no less than a festival in Australia.

The Queen’s birthday holds great significance in the minds and hearts of Aussies. The announcements of the list of recipients of the Order of Australia are usually announced twice a year. The first list is let out on the 26th of January being the Australia day. The second list is let out on the Queen’s birthday which is an official one. The Queen is the supreme ruler of the Order of Australia.

The Queen’s birthday is celebrated on two different days each year. While one is on her actual birthday, the other is on the official birthday. The Queen’s official birthday is celebrated on a Saturday in the month of June.

Another interesting thing fact to be noted is that the Queen is an animal lover and also is a patron to more than 600 charities.

The Queen’s birthday is significant to Australia Post as well. Australia Post releases a stamp to commemorate the birthday of the Queen of Australia.
