South Australia is the central part of Australia. South Australia is the fourth largest state out of Australia’s six states and two territories.
South Australia celebrates good number of events along with the special occasions that generally occur every year.
The list of Public holidays South Australia includes the commonly observed days like the New Year’s Day, Australia day, Good Friday, Easter Monday and Tuesday, Anzac day, Queen’s Birthday, Christmas day and Boxing day.
Apart from these commonly celebrated public holidays, the list of public holidays South Australia also holds some space for special occasions like Adelaide Cup day, Proclamation day and the Volunteer’s day which is an alternative name given to the Queen’s official birthday.
Similar to the Melbourne cup, the Adelaide cup is the last quality group race of about 3200 meters. It is for the racing enthusiasts who want to test their staying ability in a lengthy race. The Adelaide cup race is one of the oldest races in the history of Australia and is conducted by the South Australian Jockey Club.
The second special day is the proclamation day. It is the South Australian public holiday that celebrates the proclamation of the state as a British province. It was made by Captain John Hindmarsh adjacent to the Old Gum Tree at Glenelg way back in 1836 on 28th of December. If not on 28th of December, this day is observed on the first working day after Christmas. However, the ceremonies and celebrations are formally held on the 28th of December.
The list of public holidays South Australia reflects volunteer’s day which is nothing but the other name given to Queen’s birthday which is observed on Queen’s official birthday. It is a day when people are off work and get an opportunity to do something new along with family.
