Father’s Day

Years of sacrifice, unconditional love, strength and a pillar of support; these are the very few abbreviations that describe a father.

To commemorate such priceless love shared by fathers, the first Sunday in the month of September ever year is celebrated as father’s day.

Though mother’s day had great significance from the time of Greeks and Romans, father’s day came onto the calendars only in the 1990s.

Most people believe that Father’s day dates back to 1909. History reveals the story of Sonora Dodd, a woman who decided to honor her father. She and her five siblings were grateful for the unconditional love shared by their father without letting them realize the death of their mother. One fine year on the mother’s day Sonora felt that fathers like her own deserve a day for recognition and so she celebrated father’s day in June as her wonderful father had been born then. Sonora kept celebrating father’s day to commemorate the best fatherhood times of her dad since then.

Father's day is celebrated in Australia on the first sunday in September.

Though it took a little while for people to perceive the thought behind father’s day, fortunately the US president recognized it soon and declared an official holiday to celebrate fatherhood.

Father’s day attained great significance round the globe after it became popular in the US. People round the globe irrespective of their nationality celebrate father’s day to convey the gratitude and thankfulness they have towards their lovable fathers. Sonora’s thoughtfulness has brought in significance for father’s day and great recognition to fatherhood.

It is utmost important that each individual recognizes the sacrifice and support of fathers in the exemplary growth of children. It is so that the guiding hand of fathers will always remain on the shoulders of children. It is celebrating the major contribution that one’s father makes to one’s life.
