A special day in the history of Australia and New Zealand is the day when both allied countries went into war at Gallipoli in Turkey during World War I. Australia went into war as an independent nation for the first time ever. It is on the 25th of April and is named as the Anzac day.
Anzac means Australia New Zealand army corps. This day is significant for the citizens of Australia and New Zealand as it commemorates the troops who died in the military operations during the war. Anzac day is observed as a national holiday in Australia and New Zealand. It was first marked way back in 1916.
Though the troops representing these Nations lost the battle on this day way back during the world war, it is still observed as a national holiday to commemorate their struggle and great bravery. It was a terrible defeat that the troops of these nations faced and it was a disaster in the history of Australia and New Zealand. However, this threw light on the sacrifice and mateship that the troops expressed for their countries.
The day is celebrated with the aptly called “Anzac spirit” which is a motivation factor of the great characteristics of the troops who fought and died for their nations.
Anzac day is completely dedicated to the sacrifice and terrible struggle of the military forces of Australia and New Zealand. This day stands out as a day for remarkable bravery and sacrifice.
Anzac day is an inspirational day for the youth of the nation as it portrays the love that people had for their nations and unfortunately so many died for it.
Every year on the Anzac day, war memorials in both countries are rich with citizens gathering to remember the sacrifice given by troops in their endeavour to protect their home countries.
